Abstract

TRACING SHIRISHA (ALBIZIA LEBBECK BENTH.) IN AYURVEDA LITERATURE FOR DOSAGE FORMS AND FORMULATIONS AND THERAPEUTIC APPLICATIONS

ABSTRACT

Shirisha is one of the important medicinal plants in Ayurveda. In traditional Ayurvedic literature it has been mentioned for various disease conditions. It is also used as folklore medicine. Out of its broad-spectrum therapeutic use, this is very well known for its Vishaghna property. The Latin name of Shirisha is Albizia lebbeck Benth. It is also described in various Nighantu, which shows the wide applicability and importance of Shirisha. This present review explains the facts about Shirisha with some justification. The data about Shirisha (Albizia lebbeck Benth.) has been collected, classified, explained in this article which can help to understand this plant clearly and precisely.
