Abstract

AYURVEDIC REVIEW OF PHAKKA ROGA IN CHILDREN W.S.R TO KUPOSHANJANYA VYADHIES

ABSTRACT

Kashyap Samhita described Kumarbhritya as one of the important branch of Ayurveda. Kumarbhritya deals with the Pediatric diseases. Acharya Kashyapa is considered as the father of Kumarbhritya. Acharya Kashyapa described Phakka Roga in detail in Chikitsasthan in Phakkachikitshit Adhyaya. The Phakka means walking inability in growing children. Asthivah strotasa dushti seen in Phakka Vyadhi. Phakka resembles slothtul movement associated with poor physical development & impaired psychomotor changes. Phakka Roga are three types: Kshiraja Phakka, Garbhaja Phakka and Vyadhija Phakka. The obstruction in Rasavaha strotasa & nutritional deficiency resulted Phakka Roga. Phakka Roga is one of the common diseases occurs in childhood period. Calcium and vitamin D deficiency hampered the bone mineralization. Rickets may be vit D deficiency or non-deficiency. Kuposhanjanya Vyadhies are the disease similar to Protein Energy Malnutrition (PEM). PEM is a type of malnutrition resulting from deficiency of proteins and calories in food over a long period of time. PEM is most common in under 5years children, maximum incidence between 6 months to 3year. Poor nourishments in children can weaken their immune system and increase morbidity due to various infectious diseases.
