ABSTRACT
The literature of Ayurveda is structured in a meticulous manner, such that learners gain knowledge in accordance to their intellect. The deeper we delve, the more there is to explore. Acharya Charaka’s presentation of drugs in the form of Mahakashaya found in Shadvirechana Shatashritiya Adhyaya of Sutrasthana is one appropriate example to this. One among them is the Vedanasthapana Mahakashaya which enlists a group of ten drugs which establish and bring Vedana (sensation) to normalcy. The list provided by Acharya is not limited to ten. Additions and combinations are left to the Yukti of the physician. In order to make that possible, a thorough understanding of the actions of existing Vedanasthapana drugs is required. This work is aimed at understanding the overall action of this group of drugs and explore various other utilities.
Keywords: Mahakashaya, Vedanasthapana, Vedana, Charakokta Gana.
