A REVIEW ON NUTRACEUTICALS: FOOD-DRUG INTERACTION

ABSTRACT

Today, nutraceutical branch is the emerging branch in pharmaceutical industry. Their health People growing interest in healthy lifestyle. Nutraceuticals is getting the first choice of the consumer. When this kind of nutraceuticals are taken with any other prescribed drug then sometimes it may show some interactions such as increase or decrease the drug action also many show some side effects, we called it as Food–Drug interaction. In some cases interaction may have some beneficial effects by increasing drug efficiency but most of the time it gives side effects. Most of the time the interaction occurs due to lack of knowledge about nutraceuticals. This review article gives information about various interactions between food and prescribed drugs. In current scenario, nutraceutical field is rapidly growing but still they arefacing some challenges like self- medication, drug-food interaction, safety and efficiency.
