REVIEW OF BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA (BPH) IN AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE

ABSTRACT
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a most common benign tumor of prostate gland and it usually occurs in old age. The statistic of BPH is increasing day by day. Therefore, everyone is seeing towards Ayurveda to find out the solution for BPH like preventive as well as curative measures. A prostate gland is situated in the Apana vayu position and in an old age there is a pre-dominance of Vata Dosha therefore main vitiated Dosha is Vata. The mass or growth cannot be happen without Kapha hence Kapha Dosha is also responsible in BPH. The common symptoms of BPH like difficulty in urination, dribbling, intermittent or weak urine stream, inability to empty the bladder completely can be correlate with the Mutrakriccha type of Mutraghata vyadhi in Ayurveda. In BPH there is enlargement of prostate gland hence it can also be correlate with the Mutragranthi and Vatashtheela.So due to the Sanga of Apana vayu, Mutra, Mala and vitiated Kapha Dosha BPH occurs, sometimes due to Atipravrutti of the same Dosha-Dushya symptoms like frequent urination, Nocturia, urgency in urination may occurs. Unwholesome should be avoided for the prevention of BPH and daily Abhyanga, Avagaha sweda and Basti course in one year will keep the patient away from BPH. Shamana Chikitsa (Treatment) said in Mutrakricchra, Vatashteela and for mutragranthi will be very useful in BPH. Shodhana Chikitsa like Asthapana, Anuvasana and Vaman, Virechana will also helpful as per patient.
