ABSTRACT

In Nizamabad's forest areas, various communities have long relied on herbs to address ailments. Recent explorations in ethnobotany have unveiled a wealth of plant knowledge. Among the prevalent conditions, Kidney stones stand out. Approximately 20 plant species across 13 Angiospermic families have been identified for their use in treating this ailment. Amaranthaceae leads with 4 species, followed by 2 species each from Fabaceae, Malvaceae, Cucurbitaceae, and Padaliaceae. The gathered information from Nizamabad district reveals that tribal and local communities possess significant knowledge of medicinal plants, but the encroachment of modernization poses a threat to this invaluable heritage. Most remedies involve leaves, though some formulations incorporate underground parts like roots or rhizomes. The communication details remedies for Kidney stones, including preparation methods and application. Leaves are the primary ingredientin these formulations, followed by stems, fruits, and roots.

Keywords: Kidney Stone, Nizamabad, Fabaceae, Malvaceae, Cucurbitaceae.
