Rutuja S. Pattekar* and Keesara Balireddy
ABSTRACT
The heterocyclic compounds have a great importance in medicinal chemistry. Pyridine is a heterocyclic organic compound, consisting of a six-membered aromatic ring with five carbon atoms and one nitrogen atom. The Pyridine ring system is the basic skeleton of numerous compounds possessing cardiovascular activities. It is structurally related to benzene, with one methine group (=CH−) replaced by a nitrogen atom. These compounds are widely employed as antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-tumor, anti-hyperglycemic, analgesic, anti-convulsant, This skeleton is an important pharmacophore considered as a privileged structure.
Keywords: Pyridine derivatives, antimicrobial, antiulcer, antianxiety, anticancer, insecticides, antidiabetic, antioxidants, antiviral.
