TRADITIONAL MEDICINE, WEED, FEED AND PHARMACOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS OF COMMELINA BENGHALENSIS L.: AN UPDATED REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Traditional medicinal plants have been used for centuries in all cultures around the world. Commelina benghalensis L. also known as Benghal dayflower, is a perennial weed, animal feed and traditional medicinal plant native to tropical Asia and Africa. It is used as a folk medicine to treat and prevent various diseases like jaundice, burns, leprosy, fever, snakebite sore throat and headache. It exhibits pharmacological application such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, anticancer, anti-diabetic, larvicidal activity, fertility-inducing property, heavy metal phytoremadiation, and toxicity. Overall, various studies have been done on the pharmacologically active phytoconstituents of this plant. However, many pharmacological activities of this medicinal weed are yet to be investigated. This review paper presents a brief review, traditional, weed, feed and pharmacological applications of Commelinabenghalensis.
