Abstract

CLINICAL STUDY ON THE COMBINED EFFECT OF MADHOOKA TAILA MARSHA NASYA AND VARANADI KASHAYA PANA IN KAPHAJA SHIRASHOOLA (MAXILLARY SINUSITIS)

ABSTRACT

Background: Kaphajashirashoola is one among the 10 types of Shirorogas, which can be correlated with Chronic Maxillary sinusitis, as. etiopathology, clinical features and prognosis of Kaphajashirashoola are similar to Chronic maxillary sinusitis. Hence, both modern and ayurveda parameters have been used in the present study. Madhookawas chosen as a trial drug which was administered in the form of marshanasya along with Varanadikashayapana (Oral administration) in Kaphajashirashoola (Maxillary sinusitis). Objective of the study: To evaluate the combined effect of Madhookatailamarshanasya and Varanadhikashayapana in the management of kaphajashirashoola with special reference to maxillary sinusitis. Methodology: 30 patients of Kapahajashirashoola were selected from OPD and IPD of SDM college of Ayurveda and Hospital, Hassan; the drugs Madhooka Taila and Varanadikashaya were intervened as marshanasya and pana respectively for a period of 7 days and 30 days respectively and assessed with a self-assessment criterion on 0th, 7th and 30th day. Results: Analyzed data observed that the combination of these two drugs together were clinically and statistically significant with p value< 0.05. Interpretation and Conclusion: It was evident that the active ingredients present in both Madhookataila and Varanadi Kashaya are helpful in reducing the severity of headache and in subjective parameters.
