AN OVERVIEW OF CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME'S CHARACTERISTICS AND IMPACTS

ABSTRACT
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common neuropathy affecting the median nerve. The underlying causes of CTS include thyroid dysfunction, type 2 diabetes, menopause, being overweight, arthritic conditions, and childbirth. The most common symptom is pain, sensation of tingling, and paralysis, which is often seen in primary care, causing significant impairment for individuals. CTS can also develop from a range of external and internal causes that might create anomalies underlying CTS. This review provides an overview of the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, CTS in pregnancy, diagnosis and management options for CTS with a focus on the literature.
