ABSTRACT
Trans refers "through," and ungual refers "nail" in the "TRANSUNGUAL" system. TDDS is the delivery system through or across the nail mainly required to treat the nail disorders. Topical routes of administration is preferred mainly because when the drug is given by systemic by oral route the efficacy of the drug at the site of action is decreased. Absorption of the drugs into the nail unit to the nail plate is indispensable and produces the greater therapeutic effect. TDDS increases the patient’s compliance as it decreases oral and systemic toxicity and it also enhances the contact time at the site of application. The topical therapy also ensure the minimal side effects and is most commonly used in treating the nail infections. The most common approach used in enhancing TDDS is the chemical permeation therapy as it lower the need of toxic systemic administration for oral anti-fungal drugs used in treating the nail disorders. Patients with nail diseases comes in contact with psychological pain as it can also effect their quality of life. In spite of the fact that nail problems are not life threatening, they can become a bother some people that may take time to get back to normal if left untreated.
