ABSTRACT
The capsule shell was one of many issues confronting the pharmaceutical industry at the time. The capsule shell was a solid shell that wrapped the medications because it had an unpleasant taste that was harsh and stinky. Gelatin was commonly used as the basic material for capsule shells because it was pliable, easy to manufacture, odourless, and long-lasting. Cows and pigs were the most commonly used sources of gelatin. Capsule shells made from pork gelatin are significantly less expensive than those created from cow gelatin. Because of the difference in the selling price of gelatin raw materials, many medicine manufacturers prefer to use shells of pig gelatin capsules rather than shells of cow gelatin capsules. The disadvantage of the capsule shell made from pig gelatin was that some people could not consume it due to a belief that was held, whereas the capsule shellmade from gelatin caused people to differ on the issue of mad cow disease, whereas studies have been conducted to find alternatives for pork and cattle gelatin, including marine source. This article discusses the ingredients used to manufacture capsule shells acquired from Marine organisms, as well as the most popular techniques of recovery.
Keywords: Agar, Alginates, Carragenan, Chitin and Gelatin.
