Abstract

CUTTING EDGE TRANSFORMATION OF PHARMACOVIGILANCE WITH NEWER TECHNOLOGIES

Dr. Shamini M.* and Dr. Anuradha H. V.

ABSTRACT

Pharmacovigilance (PV) is an integral part of clinical research. Despite its 40 years history, PV remains a dynamic clinical and scientific discipline. It continues to play a crucial role in meeting the challenges posed by the ever-increasing range and potency of medicines. The role of PV in health care is remarkable which has led to withdrawal of various drugs that could have been a tragedy to mankind. Applying the recent advancement in technologies in health sector to PV, further strengthens the system to function at its optimal level. Artificial intelligence (AI) in PV will be cost-effective, time effective, and reduces the manpower required. It also improves the quality and accuracy of drug safety results. As AI is having a wide role in various aspects of PV, it has huge potential to cause multimodal influence on drug safety. Thus, the implementation of AI in PV will transform drug safety to a greater level and in the near future the burden over the patients due to toxic effect of drugs might come to nil which will mark a huge milestone in mankind and medical science.
