Abstract

LIPID PROFILE IN PATIENTS OF POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME IN REFERRED CLINIC IN KOSTI TEACHING HOSPITAL, KOSTI CITY, WHITE NILE STATE, SUDAN 2023

ABSTRACT

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome is a condition associated with chronic an ovulation, insulin resistance and androgen excess. Dyslipidaemia is the most common metabolic abnormality in PCOS, although the type and extent of findings have not been defined. Women with PCOS are at an increased risk for cardiovascular diseases. They share many features regarding the metabolic syndrome associated with polycystic ovaries. The study aimed to estimate lipid parameters among ladies with polycystic ovaries syndrome attending Kosti teaching hospital. Blood samples were collected after obtaining verbal consent from cases and controls. Serum lipid profiles were estimated by enzymatic reactions through spectrophotometer method. Result: Serum Total Cholesterol (TC), Triglycerides (TG), Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) values were elevated significantly in cases compared to controls. Conclusion: Based on the findings of the present study, patients of PCOS have a high lipid profile.
