THE ROLE OF VARIOUS LIFE EXPERIENCES IN PATIENTS OF DEPRESSION IN TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

ABSTRACT
Objectives: The present study was conducted to find out the
psychological variables that are linked to depression patients.
Methodology: A hospital-based prospective observational study was
conducted at Tertiary Care Hospital for duration of 6 months on
approximately 125 patients visiting the Department of Psychiatry,
Adesh Hospital, Bathinda. Results: Marriage, work situation,
arguments with spouse, and major changes in social activities were
identified as variables with extremely negative impacts (more than or
equal to 10) using the life experience survey scale. The variables that
reveal the moderately impacted (more than or equal to 10) are loans,
major changes in financial status, and major changes in closeness of family. The variables
that reflect the most positive impacts are: new job, major change in work situation, and major
change in financial status. Conclusion: The majority of patients suffer from depression as a
result of one or more factors from the Life Experience Survey Scale. None of the factors are
related to each other.
