K. Vineetha*, Roma Bolar, A. R. Shabaraya

ABSTRACT

A major global public health problem is diabetes mellitus, which is associated with significant morbidity. Medication adherence has a substantial impact on patient outcomes for those with chronic illnesses. Diabetes patients who follow their medications found to have better control of their intermediate risk factors, fewer hospitalizations, reduced healthcare costs and fewer fatalities. The goal of the study was to determine the, medication adherence of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in Dakshina Kannada. The Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) was used in a prospective observational study that took place over a 6-month period to evaluate the adherence among type 2 diabetes patients. 100 patients above the age of 18 from various Dakshina Kannada district locations participated in total. The study preserved gender equality. According to the study findings, only a small percentage of the research sample's diabetes patients had adequate adherence to their medication regimen. Participants having low adherence were 56%. Good adherence was only 16% among the study participants.

Keywords: Diabetes mellitus, adherence, MMAS-8.
