ABSTRACT
Kaiyadeva Nighantu (Pathyapathyabodhaka) has mainly emphasized on diet and regimen. It has been divided into eight Vargas- Aushadhavarga, Dhatuvarga, Dhanyavarga, Dravavarga, Kritannavarga, Mamsavarga, Viharavarga, Mishrakavarga. In this paper, an attempt has been made to understand the Kritannavarga with special reference to the Aharakalpanas useful in Samsarjana Krama. Kritannavarga in Kaiyadeva Nighantu is further subdivided into 62 parts like Odana, Odanabheda, Trinadhanyaudana, Mudgaudana etc. Out of these, main concentration will be on Manda, Peya, Vilepi, Yusha and Odana. These Kritannas are advised in Samsarjana krama of procedures like Vamana, Virechana, Basti etc. (Peyam Vilepeemakrutam Krutam Cha). As told by our Acharyas - Yōgamāsāṁ Tu Yō Vidyāddēśakālōpapāditam | Puruṣaṁ Puruṣaṁ Vīkṣya Sa Jñēyō; which means that the preparations are to be given to on the basis of the place of stay (Desha), time (Kala) and each person’s nature/constituency. This study will give a wide range of options to give as per the need of the patient and their condition.
