A REVIEW ON ATASI - FLAX PLANT (LINUM USITATISSIMUM LINN.)

ABSTRACT
Atasi which is also known as Flax or Flax plant and its botanical name
is Linum usitatissimum linn. Atasi is a well known and one of the most
suggested drug in Ayurveda. It is used in preparation of
approximately 86 formulations which are used internally, externally
and also for both as therapeutic purposes. This study aim to give a
review on various aspects of this drug “Atasi” such as its Introduction,
its Distribution, Synonym, Botanical name, Classification,
Morphology, Therapeutic properties, Chemical composition, Part Use,
Actions, Ayurvedic Formulations, Indications, Contraindications that
is in term of Ayurvedic aspects and Pharmacological activities of Atasi
available in classical texts such as Nighantu, Rasa/Yoga/Sangraha grantha, Chikitsa Grantha,
Samhitas including other research articles and thesis. Thus this review presents information
and encourages further scope of scientific assessments and authentication of this medicinally
important drug Atasi.
