REVIEW OF ADVANCEMENT OF ANTI-EPILEPTIC DRUGS
Wang Xiaoli*, Sun Chao and Mohammad Gousuddin
ABSTRACT
Epilepsy can be considered as a repercussion of an injury to the brain
when it gets affected by infection, trauma, stroke or a tumor. It can also
be caused by genetic mutations which can, in turn, lead to changes in
the ion channels or in the neurotransmitter genes or in brain excitation
by the proteins. Anti-epileptic drugs play a central and crucial role in
the treatment of epilepsy patients, as the majority require
anticonvulsant treatment for an extended period of time. Although
there have been many advancements in scientific research and
development, the cause of epilepsy still remains an open challenge. In
spite of high throughput research in the field of anti-epileptic drugs,
efficacy void is still prevalent before the researchers. Researchers have
persistently been exploring all the possibilities to curb undesirable side
effects of the anti-epileptic drugs or looking for a more substantial approach to diminish or
cure epilepsy.
