ABSTRACT
The present research has been undertaken with the aim to formulate and evaluate the herbal gel sanitizer using Plectranthus amboinicus extract and to evaluate the antibacterial activity of this herbal sanitizer. The herbal gel sanitizer was prepared using Carbopol 940 as a gel base and ethanolic extract of Plectranthus amboinicus. Six formulations of the herbal gel sanitizer was formulated and evaluated for organoleptic properties, pH, evaporation time, viscosity and Spreadability. Formulation F4 was selected as the best formulation which showed a pH of 5.7, evaporation time of 13seconds and showed a viscosity of 3360cP. It showed better spreadability within 2sec. The efficacy of F4 was tested against E. coli which are gram negative bacteria, using the disc diffusion method and determined by comparing the zone of inhibition against a blank formulation. It showed good antibacterial activity against E.coli.
