ABSTRACT
This study was aimed to provide the medicinal uses of Cnidoscolus aconitifolius Mill.as an antispasmodic agent using Ex-vivo pharmacological assay. Cnidoscolus aconitifolius Mill. (Euphorbiaceae) is a large, fast-growing and leafy perennial shrub that is believed to have originated in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico. The specific epithet, aconitifolius, means "Aconitum-like leaves". It has succulent stems that exude a milky sap when cut Cnidoscolus aconitifolius is used in traditional medicine for treating many purposes of the present study was to evaluate the antispasmodic effects of Cnidoscolus Leaf constituents on chicken ileum. Antispasmodic activity was assessed by the interpolation method on isolated chicken ileum. Effects of ACh, AECA Leaves and ACh were studied on
isolated chicken ileum which was later compared with atropine as standard antispasmodic agent. The present study results revealed that AECA showed promising antispasmodic action on excised chicken ileum using in vitro pharmacological assay. From the present study results it was observed that ACh alone causes contraction of excised chicken ileum but ACh was given in presence of AECA, there was a marked decrease in contraction of ileum was observed. This revealed that AECA possesses a high degree of antispasmodic (Spasmolytic) activity.[1][2]
