Abstract

PHARMACEUTICO - ANALYTICAL STUDY OF TARUNYAPIDIKAHARA LEPA CHURNA

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Lepa is a Bahirparimarjana Chikitsa (External cleansing therapy) that helps in bringing Samyata (Balance) in Sthanika (Local) Dosha and Dhatu. Many Lepa’s are mentioned in Ayurveda texts for the treatment of Tarunyapidika (Acne vulgaris). Among them, the most common is a Tarunyapidikahara Lepa which is a combination of Lodhra, Dhanyaka and Vacha. Aim: An attempt is made to analyze the physico-chemical parameters of the Tarunyapidikahara Lepa Churna including HPTLC. Materials and Methods: The pharmaceutical preparation and analytical study of organoleptic characters and Physico-chemical parameters of Tarunyapidikahara Lepa Churna were carried out. Observations and Results: The obtained results were discussed in the present paper. Discussion and Conclusion: The Tarunyapidikahara Lepa Churna is a simple preparation and can be prepared easily with the available drugs. The HPTLC fingerprinting of Tarunyapidikahara Lepa Churna at different wavelengths was carried out. At 254 nm, 366nm and 540nm wavelengths 5, 10 and 7 peaks were found with different retention factors starting from 0.28 to 0.72, 0.13 to 0.089 and 0.17 to 0.72 respectively.
