Infection due to antimicrobial resistance organism has lead to higher rates of morbidity and mortality each day worldwide. Preserving and Rational use of antimicrobials is the call of the hour. This has lead to the seeding of Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (AMSP). Aim: To promotes appropriate use of antimicrobial, improve patient safety and outcomes, reduce spread of infections and drug resistance. Method: Antimicrobial stewardship is ongoing 8 year observational study. Our Prospective study included Surgical Prophylaxis Audit, Medical Prophylaxis Audit, Antifungal Audit and Restricted Antibiotic Audit as per ASP plan 2016-2023.This Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs is carried out in a 500-bedded tertiary care hospital as a eight year plan from 2016-2023 based on scientific evidence, accepted practice guidelines, and local laws and regulations. Results: In this 8 year program the initial surgical compliance was 67.85 % which improved to 95.81 %, a huge significant difference. In 2017 medical compliance was 90.35% which rose to 99.47%. For Anti fungal the compliance was 93.65% in 2018 which rose to 97.65% in 2022. Conclusion: Our AMS has proved to be successful program with strong administrative support and it has led to sustainable and multidisciplinary changes. The lessons learnt from this AMSP can contribute to enlighten the need and importance to implement such type of an Antimicrobial Stewardship Program in other hospitals around the world.
