DRUG REVIEW OF KANAI KIRUTHAM IN THE MANAGEMENT OF SINGI MANTHA KANAM

ABSTRACT
Siddha system is an ancient and traditional system which was developed by Siddhars and the system was originated and widespread in South India. Siddars blessed the mankind with plenty of medicine to alleviate their sufferings. One such precious medicine is Kanai Kirutham. “Kanai Kirutham” is a poly herbal preparation which is described in “Agathiyar vaithiya pillai tamizh”. Benefits of this precious medicines are Respiratory Infections such as cough (Both productive and dry cough), bronchitis, asthma (Wheezing), tuberculosis in children as per the reference. According to the symptoms, bronchitis with wheezing is correlate with “Singi mantha kanam”. Singi mantha kanam is one among the type of kanam which mentioned in Baala vagadam. This review tell off the family,
morphology, parts used, chemical constituents, pharmacological actions of the each ingredients of the formulation. Siddha texts and electrical databases are the main sources of this review. The aim of the study is to analyse the relationship of chemical constitutents and pharmocological actions of reviewed drug with singi mantha kanam and spread the knowlegde about this drug. Moreover this will be useful for further study.
