Ankam Bhagya Lakshmi* and Naveen Kumar Bathula
ABSTRACT
In a multiple pregnancy, one or more foetuses share the same intrauterine space, its rarity in spontaneous pregnancies suggests that the human female uterus is designed to carry one foetus at a time by nature. Multiple pregnancy is becoming more common as a result of fertility therapy, particularly assisted reproductive technology. Unfortunately, repeated pregnancies are linked to a number of difficulties, both during pregnancy and after delivery. From diagnosis through treatment, maternal uterine abnormalities present unique complications if they are linked to multiple pregnancies. If the pregnancy continues with just one foetus, the risk of miscarriage increases, and some of them go undetected. This comprehensive
review addresses maternal complications linked to multiple Pregnancies. It navigates through a variety of complications including Gestational hypertension. Preeclampsia, Gestational diabetes, preterm labour, and postpartum haemorrhage. The study extends its scope beyond Physiological factors to consider the psychosocial impact on mothers. Drawing on the latest research. The review outlines the distinct challenges Of twin pregnancies and effective management strategies, while highlighting Current knowledge gaps and areas for further research.
