A LITERATURE REVIEW OF THE POLY HERBAL FORMULATION (ATHIMADHURA KULIGAI)

ABSTRACT
A poly herbal preparation (Athimadhura Kuligai) which is used for treating Maantha Sanni (Autism spectrum disorder) for children in Siddha Medicine. Based on references, the preparation method of Athimadhura Kuligai, which is mentioned in the Siddha Book of Sarabenthira Vaithiya Muraigal (sanniroga sikichai) is commonly practiced in the health service of Siddha medical system in India. Therefore, this preliminary step was taken to provide documentary evidence for the therapeutic effects of the ingredients which are used to the preparation of Athimadhura Kuligai. Data for the review of 10 ingredients were collected from relevant research sources from January 2022 to April 2023. Data entry form was prepared based on the characteristics of the ingredients such as families, morphology, parts used, siddha properties and pharmacological actions. Among these ingredients, all were identified as 10 herbal (100%). These herbal ingredients are belonging to 6 families which are different families, Fabaceae (10%), Piperaceae (20%), Pinaceae (10%), Zingiberaceae (20%), Ranunculaceae (10%), Combretaceae (10%), Acoraceae (10%), and Plantaginaceae (10%). Based on the growth habit, these plant materials were classified as 6 herbs (60%), 2 climbers (20%) and 2 tree (20%) were used in Athimathura kuligai preparation. Among 10 ingredients, siddha properties such as 4 pungent taste (40%), 9 hot potency (90%), 6 pungent bio availability (60%), 6 carminative (60%), 4 stomachic (40%), 3 laxative (30%) actions were found. Finally, this study provides the clear information for the therapeutic effects, further scientific studies for Athimadhura Kuligai and each medicinal ingredient should be performed in future.
