Abstract

Bhaskar Mehandiratta*, Vishal Verma and Sheetal Verma

ABSTRACT

Kshar, a herbal remedy deeply rooted in Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, has gained attention for its versatile therapeutic properties like Chedana, Bhedana, Lekhana, Shodhana, Ropana etc. The external application of Kshar is Pratisarniya Kshar whereas its internal use is Paniya Kshar. Kshar (Alkaline formation) derived from the Aragvadha plant (Cassia fistula Linn.) commonly known as the Indian laburnum or golden shower tree has been traditionally used in wide range of health issues. Arsha, commonly known as piles or hemorrhoids, is a prevalent and often discomforting condition affecting millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by the inflamed blood vessels in the anal region, leading to symptoms such as bleeding, pain, itching, and discomfort during bowel movements. Acharya Sushruta has recognized Teekshna Pratisarniya Kshar as a potent herbal remedy for managing Arsha and providing relief from its associated symptoms. The aim of present work is to present a comprehensive review of Teekshna Pratisarniya Aragvadha Kshar's utilization in managing Arsha, encompassing its traditional preparation methods, underlying principles of Ayurvedic theory that guide its use and its documented therapeutic effects.

Keywords: Teekshna Pratisarniya Kshar, Arsha, Haemorrhoids, Karnikara, Cassia fistula.
