ABSTRACT
The paper reviews an overview of a conventional and novel approach in the Topical Drug delivery System. Drug delivery via the skin is become progressively popular due to its convenience and affordability. Dosage forms for Topical application are intended to produce the required therapeutic action specific target in the skin with the least probable adverse effect. Over the last decades our understanding above physiochemical of topical formulation and the excipients result in the ability to develop physical, chemical and biologically stable products. The to design and develope a successful pharamaceutical dosage form for skin delivery, preformulation and formulation studies particular consideration. Moreover, the knowledge of skin barrier structure and drug permeation properties is essential for as rational progress in the
development of topical formulations. This guidelines also includes classification, structure of the skin, drug transport across the skin, novel topical drug delivery system.
