ABSTRACT
Valerian drug is obtained from the plant name valeriana officinalis. In many researches it was shown that the drug obtained from this plant have therapeutic value to cure conditions like anxiety, premenstrual syndrome, diuretic, antispasmodic, insomnia, gastrointestinal spasms, and cardiovascular activity. The drug generally works by acting on GABA receptors to show anti-anxiety effect. However, due to the valerian being a herbal origin drug the efficacy, effectiveness and toxicity always become a major issue. Hence, some researches are conducted to study the efficacy and effectiveness of the valerian drug with the help of the numerous bioinformatics tools like Cytoscape and String Database. So, that deep and better understanding can be
achieved. Hence, in this article we summarize the valerian drug, its various pharmacological activities, its toxicity, overview of chemistry of valerian drug and its mechanism on how the drug interact with GABA receptor and the bioinformatics researches in brief.
