ROLE OF PANCHAKARMA IN GLOBAL HEALTH CARE

ABSTRACT
Change in diet with increasing inactive lifestyle has sparked of several countries. There has been significant increase in the consumption of fats and every dense food with a concurrent reduction in physical activities. Today’s more jobs are becoming sedentary and dietary pattern are also changing. This results in obesity along with other associated problems. Obesity is known as Sthaulya / Medoroga in ayurveda. Obesity is not confined to any age or gender. Acharya Charak described obesity in sutrasthana in ashtaunindit chapter. Description of obesity is also given in Sushrut Sanhita, Madhav Nidan, Ashtang Hridaya. Panchakarma therapy such as snehana, svedana, virechana which are line of treatment for obesity as ayurveda panchakarma showed significant improvement in functional capacity and quality of life.
