Abstract

MANAGEMENT OF SHWITRA WITH AYURVEDIC MODALITIES- A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

Background: In Ayurveda all skin diseases comes under heading of Kushtha Roga. Shwitra is one among them. Shwitra is a disease which is characterised by white patches on the body. The psychological and emotional impact on the patients affected by this conditions can be overwhelming, and requires development of new, more effective, treatment options. In clinical treatment, many vitiligo patients are often dependent on hormone drugs, immunosuppresive drugs for quick result. Most the patients develop drug resistance. If body is resistance to the drug, the patient should not continue to use the drug. Overviewing this condition, Shodhana and Shamana chikitsa of Ayurveda offers a permanent and natural Shwitra treatment that can stop the spread of this disease and reverse it's effect without any side effect. Aim: To study the management of Shwitra with Ayurvedic Modalities. Objectives: 1) To Study the role of Shodhana and Shamana chikitsa in management of Shwitra. 2) To study Shwitra disease in detail. Methodology: The present case report is of 38 year old female Patient, come with complaints of whitish discolored patches over left pectoralis-major and at jugular notch region and no burning and itching sensation; was effectively treated with Shodhana and then followed by Shamana Aushadhies for a period of 4 months with follow up at every 7 days in between. Relief from the complaints was assessed by noting the changes in size and color of Patch. Objective parameter assessed by VASI score. Result: Patient showed 90% encouraging result after Virechana, Jaloukacharna and followed by Shamana Aushadhis. Conclusion: The present case study of Shwitra conclude that better significant result can be achieved by Shodhana therapy followed by Shamana therapy and also with altered prepration of external application made by different medias.
