COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF THE ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF Citrus sinensis AND Citrus limetta PEEL

ABSTRACT
Citrus peels contain a high amount of nutrients. Mainly it contains flavanoids. Here we are comparing the citrus peels of Orange and Mosambi. Sinceyears, orange peel powder has been used as an antioxidant ingredient in cosmetic formulation. So in this work we are trying to prove that whether we can use Mosambi peel powder (which is almost similar to orange peel powder) as an antioxidant ingredient in cosmetic formulationinstead of orange peel powder. Orange and Mosambi were purchased from Thiruvananthapuram and the citrus peel powder was extracted by maceration techniqueusingethanol. The phenolic contents of these samples were studied.They help protect skin cells from damage and aging and may improve skin texture and appearance.Invitro antioxidant studies of the sample were assessed
usingthreedifferent methods (DPPH scavenging activity, total flavonoid test, hydrogen peroxidescavenging activity). The invitro antioxidant studies of the 2 samples were compared and showed that they have significantly low difference in their activity.
