A COMPARATIVE CLINICAL STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF VAMAN AND VIRECHAN WITH SHALMALI KANTAK LEPA IN YUVAN PIDIKA

ABSTRACT
Skin is the largest organ of our body and being a site of sparshendriya[1], it plays an important role in physical and mental well being of an individual. Facial beauty has always been of prime concern to all, as it reflects the whole personality of one and Yuvan Pidika is such a disease which alters its configuration and that too in the young ages of an individual. This is mentioned under Kshudra roga in ayurved classics. Vitiation of Kapha, vata and Rakta doshas give rise to swelling, pain, redness, itching.[2] In modern medicines, it can be correlated with Acne vulgaris, characterized by the formation of comedones, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. Though the disease is not a life-threatening condition but it causes a great psycho- social burden. All these facts necessitate searching for a better measure The study was conducted on 30 patients for a month in two groups. Vaman and Virechan processes along with Shalmali Kantak lepa was given to the different groups. After the completion of therapy, overall effect of Virechan karma with lepa was found better than the application of Vaman karma with lepa.
