COMPILATION STUDY ON QUALITIES OF VAIDYA (PHYSICIAN) ACCORDING TO CHARAK SAMHITA

ABSTRACT
Ayurveda being Holistic science believes that success of any treatment is totally depends upon efforts and proper employment of Chatushpada (four pillars of treatment). If these Chatushpada endowed with their proper qualities, then they are responsible for the cure of any kind of diseases. These Chatushpada are Bhishag (Physician), Upastha (Medical Attendant / para medical staff) and Rogi (Patient) and Dravya (Medicine). But here Bhishag i.e. Physician stands in priority among four pillars considering most important part of the whole treatment. Without being good Vaidya (Doctor) successful treatment cannot be established. In Charak Samhita, Acharya Charak has mentioned various synonyms, qualities and types of Vaidya at several places. Therefore it becomes very essential to collect or compile all the scattered references about Vaidya at one place. Therefore this review article attempts to explain the qualities of Vaidya and its importance in Chikitsa Chatushpad as mentioned in Charak Samhita.
