ABSTRACT
Sandhi Sharira is the prominent subject in Ayurveda. The Kora sandhis are found in the places Anguli (Inter phalengial), Manibandha (Wrist), Gulpha (Ankle), Janu (Knee) and Kurpara (Elbow). Wrist is a type of Synovial Ellipsoidal (Condyloid) joint and it is also a biaxial joint according to modern science. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is an entrapment syndrome. It is triggered when median nerve is compressed in carpal tunnel. This compression in the carpal tunnel is believed to cause venous congestion, which results in nerve oedema and anoxic damage to the capillary endothelium of the median nerve itself. It is most commonly occurring syndrome in the nerve compression syndromes. Although many researchers have studied the wrist complex using biomechanics but due to its complex nature, there are still many unknown facts or unrevealed truths about the joints. The objective of this study is to explore the Manibandha sandhi and its correlation to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. All sorts of references related to Manibandha sandhi have been collected from various Ayurvedic & modern texts and research articles. Injury to Manibandha sandhi causes stiffness, loss of movements of joint and severe pain during movement, functional deformity of hand likewise loss of flexion, extension and adduction of 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers.
Keywords: Sandhi, Manibandha, Wrist joint, Carpal tunnel syndrome.
