ABSTRACT
Amavata is named so because the chief pathogenic constituent in the disease are Ama and Vata. The disease belongs to Abhyantara as well as Madhyamarogamarga. The Samprapti starts in the Annavaha Srotus and extends through Mdhyamarogamarga with special inclination for Kaphasthana especially Sandhi which is the mula of Majjavaha Srotus. Amavata (Rheumatoid arthritis) is a chronic, systemic autoimmune disorder associated with inflammation and tissue damage in joints (arthritis) and tendon sheaths. First time, Madhav nidana mentioned Amavata as separate disease. After that vangsena, chakaradutta, bhaishjya ratnavali has elaborated the treatment modalities of Amavata. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease that primarily affects the lining of the synovial joints and is associated with progressive disability, causes swelling, pain and stiffness of joints. Chronic condition may cause debility, deformities of joints and crippling. Having several features to Rheumatoid Arthritis Amavata is compared to Rheumatoid Arthritis. There is no definite cure for the disease. Many research works have been done but still need for an effective and safe treatment.
