ABSTRACT
Due to illogical usage of drugs, currently available medications are suffering from the problem of resistance, and relatively few pharmaceuticals are emerging from research and development. Therefore, altering the operation is a good and effective technique to increase the effectiveness of some drugs by slightly changing the drug distribution. Due to its inherent benefits, pharmaceutical businesses are currently concentrating on developing Modified release formulations. Modified release dosage forms are made to release a medicine at a set pace while keeping the drug level constant for a set amount of time
with the fewest adverse effects possible. The fundamental idea behind Modified release drug delivery systems is to maximise a medication's biopharmaceutical, pharmacokinetic, and pharmacodynamics qualities such that its usefulness is maximised Side effects are diminished, and the condition is cured. Modified release drug delivery has a number of benefits over conventional dosage forms, including increased patient compliance due to less frequent drug administration, decreased steady-state drug level fluctuations, maximum drug utilisation, increased safety margin of potent drugs, lower healthcare costs due to improved therapy, and shorter treatment times. Modified release has two main objectives: to promote patient compliance by lowering dosage frequency and to offer a promising strategy to reduce adverse effects by limiting fluctuations in the drug's therapeutic concentration in the body. The fundamentals of Modified-release formulation as well as the various varieties are covered in this article.
