ABSTRACT
The main objective of the study is to formulate and evaluate mosquito repellent dermal patches of Ruta graveolens. The volatile oil of Ruta graveolens is traditionally used as mosquito repellent. Ruta graveolens is a medicinal plant used in the Mediterranean region to treat pain, dermatitis, rheumatism and other inflammatory diseases. The freshly extracted volatile oil is used for the preparation of dermal patches. The dermal patches were evaluated for their physic chemical parameters such as weight variation, thickness, moisture content, folding durability, pH were identified and their results were revealed as all the physicochemical parameter were within the monograph standard which are mentioned in GMP guidelines. After the evaluation of dermal
patches the cage test was performed to know the effectiveness of the mosquito repellent dermal patches of Ruta graveolens and it was shown that the patches have good repellence activity with lower side effects. The present research work was successfully concluded that the Ruta graveolens is effective in mosquito repellence. From the above investigations it was expertise to develop a mosquito repellent dermal patch of Ruta graveolens and it was just an attempt to make a dermal patch in which the extracted volatile oil of Ruta graveolens is incorporated for the time and these mosquito repellent dermal patches can be effective, economical and easily available for mosquito repellence.
Keywords: Mosquito repellent activity, Ruta graveolens.
