ABSTRACT
Cynodon dactylon (Bermuda grass) is a medicinal plant distributed worldwide. Cynodon dactylon belongs to the Poaceae family and is widely used in pharmaceutical activities. It is utilized for treating skin problems and heat-related issues. The face wash gel, formulated with Cynodon dactylon and utilizing carbapol 940 as the gelling agent, achieved successful results. The study demonstrated that the Cynodon dactylon extract displayed antioxidant activity, as evidenced by its DPPH free radical scavenging activity. Three formulations (F1, F2, and F3) were prepared and F2 showing superior outcomes compared to the other two formulations. Evaluation tests were conducted to assess colour, consistency, pH, spreadability, washability, and foamability.
These tests consistently produced compatible results. Additionally, the formulated product exhibited antibacterial activity. The broad-spectrum antibacterial effects of the plant extract can be attributed to the presence of phytochemical constituents, thus reinforcing its traditional medicinal use. Based on the current study, it can be inferred that the traditional use of Cynodon dactylon for infectious diseases, particularly against bacteria, shows promise. Consequently, the formulated preparations can be effectively employed for skincare purposes.
