A REVIEW OF SANDHIGATA VATA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO OSTEOARTHRITIS

ABSTRACT
Sandhigata vata is diseased condition in which vitiated vata affects sandhi. Nidan (predisposing factors) firsty acts on doshas and vitiates them, then the vitiated doshas get lodged at one or more than one Sandhi and producing the features like pain in the joint, swelling on palpation, crepitus and stiffness in the joint. In this review article we were discussed about nidan (Predisposing factor), Samprapti (Pathogenesis of disease) and chikitsa (Line of Treatment) thoroughly. Osteoarthritis is type of joint disease that result from breakdown of joint cartilage and underlying bone. The common symptoms of osteoarthritis are joint pain and stiffness other symptoms include swelling decreased range of motion. The most commonly involved joint are fingers knee joint, hip joint. It is second most common
rheumatological problem. In present era, compitation and advancement lead to hectic and stressful life. Peoples do not have time to care for health. Fast food, neglecting natural urges, lack of sleep, improper sitting standing position, overexertion jerking movement during travelling and sports. All these cause joint pain. The disease sandhigata vata resembles osteoarthritis. Looking into the increasing prevalence and major dislabling nature of sandhigata vata the disease has been chosen for the review article.
