ORAL MEDICATED JELLIES AND IT’S IMPORTANCE IN DYSPHAGIA

ABSTRACT
Among the different routes, oral route is most preferably used because of its safety, ease of administration, patient compliance and pain avoidance. Oral Medicated Jellies are transparent semi-solid preparation suitable for use in pediatric, geriatric and dysphagia patients. Its advantages over other oral preparation as it can be taken anywhere, any time and without water, especially those who have trouble in swallowing. Oral medicated jellies can be prepared by using synthetic polymers like methyl cellulose, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, pectin, tragacanth gum, and sodium alginate. It serves as a novel dosage form with wide application in pharmaceuticals, Nutraceuticals and over the counter medicines. Jellies are evaluated such as physical appearance, stickiness and grittiness, spreadability, viscosity, pH, stability studies. Oral medicated jellies are mostly useful in growth of pharmaceutical companies.
