TUBERCULOSIS (TB) AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE: A LITERATURE REVIEW

ABSTRACT
One of the oldest illnesses known to afflict humans, tuberculosis (TB), which is brought on by germs from the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, is a leading cause of mortality worldwide. According to the WHO, TB is the second-leading cause of death in the world's population after HIV/AIDS. TB continues to be a serious threat to humankind. The poor socioeconomic segment of the population and marginalised groups within the society are more susceptible to tuberculosis. By 2025, TB would have been eradicated nationally in
India, according to the National Strategic Plan (2017-2025). Increased knowledge and awareness of tuberculosis are necessary. The history, epidemiology, histology, immunology, aetiology, and clinical characteristics of both pulmonary and extra-pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) have been reviewed in this review article. The diagnostic methodology for PTB and EPTB, together with a substantial amount of in-depth information on diagnostic modalities, has been described. The suggested newer medications for multi-drug resistant TB have been summarised together with the treatment plans for sensitive, extensive, and drug-resistant tuberculosis. In an attempt to better understand and raise awareness of TB, this review article was created after a thorough analysis of the literature. This is a real effort to assist tuberculosis be eradicated from the planet in the not too distant future.
