ABSTRACT

At present scenario many researchers are working to develop technology that promises to deliver the drug in more efficient and less painful way in order to produce the therapeutic effects. Needle-free injection systems are novel ways to introduce various medicines into patients without piercing the skin with a conventional needle. This review intends to throw light on the basic mechanisms by which this technology works, different types of technologies available at present and its application. Needle-free technology has enormous biomedical applications including immunization to insulin delivery where NFJI have been widely used. Needle free injection technology is growing and has the potential to make the administration of medicine more efficient, safe and convenient. In this review, we focus on the dermatological use of jet injectors beyond vaccines and systemic drug delivery methods, namely Needle-Free Intradermal Injection (NFII).

Keywords: Needle free injection, drug delivery, NFII technology.
