A REVIEW ON ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AND ANTI-MICROBIAL ACTION OF KATAKADIRASANJANA

ABSTRACT

The current scenario of witnessing a number of eye disorders is mainly related to increase in pollution, watching tv, using mobiles and computers. In eye disorders, ocular allergy is very common that occur due to hypersensitivity reaction of specific airborne antigens. Modern treatment given for it is mast cell stabilizers, Anti-inflammatory and NSAIDs which have lots of side effects also They are expensive too. Ayurveda helps to provide better relief in such manifestations. As a demand of Today’s Era, we need a herbal safe ophthalmic preparation. The esteemed formulation Katakadirasanjan was advocated by Acharya Sharangdhar to tackle the inflammatory changes. In this formulation, Kataka and Madhu are present in equal quantities and Karpura is present in slightly less amount. Formulation is prepared by rubbing Kataka on a hard surface, then by adding Madhu and Karpura. Kataka, Karpura and honey have potent property to cure eye disorders. The result of this study shows that all the ingredients of Katakadirasanjana can work as anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial against a wide range of microbes. Thus, Katakadirasanjana formulation is used to treat allergic disorders of eyes.
