Abstract

AN OVERVIEW ON FUTURE PERSPECTIVE OF TRANSDERMAL PATCHES

Bharat Bhushan*, Pallavi Pandey, Tarun Parashar and Vikash Jakhmola

ABSTRACT

Transdermal formulations or patches have demonstrated numerous benefits and have contributed to the expansion of drug delivery systems. This drug formulation advancement has shown important growth in medicine. This drug delivery is site-specific, allowing humans to get the desired effect from the drug. The transdermal drug delivery system avoids first-pass metabolism, which is why it gives better bioavailability with a low drug requirement and prolonged drug delivery. However, the inability of solid drugs has been a great disadvantage, which has been overcome by transdermal patches. These patches are implanted under the skin via minor surgery and can be kept for a long period of time for prolonged release. This is also used to treat chronic kidney disease. These drugs are sterile and free from microorganisms because they are kept in the skin, and the presence of microorganisms can cause infection. In this review, we will be studying the material and method of preparation, evaluation, and characterization of transdermic patches.

Keywords: Transdermal, Prolonged drug delivery, Sterile, Bioavailability.
