A LITERARY REVIEW OF KRISHNA VARIETY OF VASA (JUSTICIA GENDARUSSA BURM.F.)

ABSTRACT
Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicine, remains the most ancient yet living magic tradition which provides good health to mankind. The precious medicinal plants are the backbone of Ayurveda science. One such medicinal plant Vasa (Adhatoda vasica Nees.) has remained all-time favourite of Vaidyas since ancient times to treat diseases like Kasa, Swasa, Raktapitta, Kshaya, Jwara etc. Recent books of the 20th century mention Krishna Vasa (Justicia gendarussa. Burm.f.) as another variety of Vasa. In contrast to Vasa which is Sheet Virya, Krishna Vasa is said to be Ushan, Tikshan and more potent in properties than Vasa. It is Kaphanisarak, Amapachaka, Jwaraghana, Raktashodhak, Vatashamak useful in respiratory diseases, arthritis, skin diseases, gastric disorders like Apachan, Adhman etc. As the plant is having good therapeutic potential it is worth reviewing it in available literature offline and online. The information might be useful to physicians, scientists and researchers.
