A REVIEW ON HINGULA KALPAS MENTIONED IN VARIOUS TEXTS OF RASA SHASTRA

ABSTRACT
Hingula is one among the several important drugs in Ayurveda which is used as a single remedy or as an ingredient in various herbo-mineral preparations. Hingula being chief source of Mercury, Parada extracted from it is said to be equivalent to Ashta samskarita Parada. Important books of Rasa Shastra are reviewed in an attempt to provide detailed description about various Hingula Kalpas like, where in Hingula used as a single drug & compound formulations such as Khalviya, Kupipakwa etc are listed. Apart from solid dosage forms, semisolid dosage forms such as avaleha, malahara, lepas are mentioned in classics are very much useful. Unfortunately, many of the formulations are not found in market. Hence Pharmaceutical firms may bring these unique dosage forms into the market to supply health care needs of the community. This paves a scope for further researches on different dosage forms of Hingula and their indication.
