AN OVERVIEW OF PONGAMIA PINNATA (L.): MEDICINAL VALUE AND PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

ABSTRACT
Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre is one of several plants with various therapeutic virtues, and all of its constituent parts have been utilised as traditional medicine in many different nations for the treatment and prevention of many illnesses. The plant extract has analgesic, anti-diarrheal, anti-fungal, anti-plasmodial, anti-ulcer, anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, anti-hyperglycaemic, anti-hyperammonic, and anti-lipoxidative properties. Biodiesel may be produced from its oil. This plant has a long history of usage as a source of traditional remedies, animal feed, green manure, wood, fish poison, and fuel in India and its surrounding areas. In this paper, we address our current understanding of the pharmacological, phytochemical, and traditional applications of the Pongamia pinnata plant.
