PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING OF POONAI MEESAI CHOORANAM KUDINEER IN THE MANAGEMENT OF OOTHU SOBAI IN CHILDREN

ABSTRACT
The Siddha system is the oldest system of medicine which was flourished in South India. The term Siddha was derived from the route of word “SIDDHI” means spiritual perfection or to become one with the supreme. The Dravidians wrote the scriptures in Tamil, the sciences described in their scriptures flourished and their history proves that they were quite hale and healthy and lived long. Siddha medicine has strong roots reflecting the culture, tradition and heritage of India. Siddha system of medicine is evolved based on 96 thathuvam. Taste of food and medicine has been accorded lot of importance in the principle of treatment. Siddha concentrates with herbal medicine on healing medical condition from the root cause of the disease. In paediatric age group Sobai is one of the commonest disease. The aim
of the study was to evaluate the phytochemical analysis of the trial medicine Poonai meesai chooranam kudineer taken from Encyclopedia of medicinal plants for the treatment Oothu Sobai (Nephrotic syndrome). The phytochemical analysis reveals the presence of calcium, sulphate, chloride, starch, tannic acid, reducing sugar and amino acid. It is concluded the presence of above mentioned phytochemical justify the better use of the medicine Poonai meesai chooranam kudineer for Oothu Sobai.
