ABSTRACT
Pregnancy is a particularly important time since her body goes through several physiological changes at this time. One of the frequent medical issues that arise during pregnancy is hypertension, which has a major negative impact on maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Hypertension is a sign of some underlying pathology, and it may preexist a pregnancy or appear for the first time during pregnancy. The most significant cause of maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality is pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), which complicates about 6% of pregnancies globally.[1] In India, the prevalence of PIH is 15.2% on a national level, although it is four times greater in
primiparous women than in multiparous women.[1] Therefore, it is our responsibility as physicians to identify all major to prevent these illnesses to the greatest extent feasible, as this will be beneficial for healthy perinatal outcomes. This pathology develops as a direct result of the "gravid state" and affects the functioning of various systems that can be encountered in different disease conditions in Ayurveda.[2] Although there are many medications described in modern science for the treatment of pregnancy-induced hypertension, an effort is made to treat this problem with Ayurvedic medications in this case study. Pregnancy-related hypertension is not specifically described in Ayurveda, but Acharya Harita has describe Shopha as one of the Updravas of Garbha while mentioning Garbhini Vyadhi. This is a case study of a woman who was having regular antenatal checkups at the National Institute of Ayurveda in Jaipur. Her routine examination was within the normal range. She developed a blood pressure of 140/90 mm Hg during the 31 weeks of pregnancy. She was treated with Gokshur Churna (3 g BD) after 30 minutes of consumption of food and Punarnava Mandoora (250 mg BD) after 30 minutes of consumption of food with Takra, along with other routine antenatal medication and a specific dietary regime that was continued until labor. After one week of administration of Gokshur Churna and Punarnava Mandoora, blood pressure was found to be normal and remained so until labor.
